HIIT It!
Post By Lily Gil, Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, Nourish Northwest
Over the past few years HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training, has changed the way we think of fitness. When you hear the words High Intensity Interval Training, you immediately picture fast-paced, SUPER intense, short-duration workouts. And that is indeed exactly what HIIT is. If you’re like me and enjoy perusing fitness blogs (such as this one!) on a leisurely Sunday morning, you likely have seen over and over again headlines touting HIIT as the best possible form of exercise and encouraging the masses to give it a try. BUT, have you ever wondered why HIIT is so effective?
The Nourish Northwest Spring Cleanse
Post by Olivia Martino, Registered Dietitian and Co-Owner, Nourish Northwest
Last week Paula wrote about her experience with our upcoming cleanse program. I also just wrapped up my winter cleanse group and was going through all of the feedback I have collected throughout the years I have been leading such programs. It is so interesting to see how different everyone’s experience is. I wanted to use this opportunity to discuss my experience planning and doing cleanses and describe in more detail what you can expect from our group cleanse. And more importantly than the text in this post is the pictures of the food you can expect to enjoy on the 2016 spring cleanse.
Core Training 101
Post by Christy Johnson, Nourish Northwest Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor
When I say core – you say ABS! Core! ABS! Core! WRONG!
Guess what people!?! Your core does not equal your abs. However, your abs ARE a part of your core, so you are kinda almost there. Together, we prepared 12 days worth of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks. Read More
Recipe: Millet Pilaf + Intro to the Instant Pot
Post by Paula Jahn, Co-owner, Registered Dietitian & Cooking Class Instructor at Nourish Northwest
It’s no secret that I am a proponent (cheerleader, demystifyer) of the pressure cooker. I’ve held workshops on how to use it, written blogs about it, and frequently use it in my own kitchen. Some tease me for being a bit of a nerd. I believe that the “new generation” stovetop pressure cookers are nothing to be afraid of and are easy to operate. I love that you can sauté vegetables/brown meat, add liquid, lock the lid, and open it a few minutes later to a complete one-pot meal. I also cook unsoaked beans in it (22-35 minutes under pressure for most beans).
